African football stars Andre Ayew, Riyad Mahrez and Yaya Toure have made a barnstorming start to the Barclays Premier League season.

The trio have been instrumental in their respective clubs' sparkling early season form, with Swansea, Leicester City and Manchester City sitting pretty in the top half of the table after two rounds of fixtures.

Andre Ayew

Ghana vice-captain Ayew couldn't have made a better start to life in Wales, with the 25-year old scoring in his first two league games for the club, equaling the record set by Diego Costa and Eric Dier last season.

Ayew joined the Swans on a free transfer in the off-season, ending the Ayew family's long-standing relationship with French club Marseille.

Several European sides were interested in signing Ayew, but the exciting attacker chose Swansea where he took over the number 10 jersey vacated by Wilfried Bony.

Early signs suggest the move was a stroke of genius, with successive goals against Chelsea and Newcastle United setting-up Ayew for what promises to be a memorable campaign.

Riyad Mahrez

Leicester City were bottom of the league mid-April last season, but an inspired run of form helped the Foxes to a 14th-place finish.

Claudio Ranieri took over in the European summer, but the Foxes have continued their rise and sit top alongside Manchester City after two rounds of fixtures.

Leicester's attacking, high-octane football is a thing of beauty and with Mahrez in full flight, the club could be eyeing a top half finish this season.

The Algerian winger has scored three goals in his opening two games of the campaign, having only managed a mere seven in 51 matches in England before the season kicked-off.

Yaya Toure

Will the real Yaya Toure please stand up? He is standing alright, flying in fact. The burly midfielder was below par last season, but is back to his brilliant best, helping Manchester City to successive 3-0 wins over West Brom and Chelsea.

The 32-year-old already has a goal and two assists two his name and looks every bit the player that helped the Citizens to the 2013/2014 BPL title.

Unplayable on his day, Toure has put the famous cake saga behind him and looks determined as ever to win more silverware with City - even tracking back on occasion, helping in defence.

With a rejuvenated Toure, City look early title favourites.

- Everton's Arouna Kone deserves a special mention, with the Ivorian striker seemingly finally putting his injury woes behind him with a goal and an assist in the Toffees' opening two games of the season.
