Germany-based defender Leon Balogun was not risked by the Super
Eagles in Wednesday’s test game against Abuja Football College as “a
precautionary measure”, team officials have told AfricanFootball.com
Balogun is believed to have picked up a knock around his ankle when he got his first start and lasted 73 minutes for Mainz at the weekend in a German Bundesliga game, which his team won 3-0.
On Wednesday evening, he sat out the entire test match allowing Warri Wolves ace Solomon Kwambe to hold down the right fullback position for the full duration.
“Yes, he didn’t play (the test game), but it was just precautionary…nothing serious to worry about,” disclosed an official.
Balogun has bounced back to serious reckoning since a better-forgotten debut against Mexico in March 2014 during which he fractured his foot after 20 minutes and was sidelined for several months.
