The 22-year-old midfielder, who played for France at youth level, had turned down a Panthers call-up ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations before ultimately opting to represent his country of origin last June.
Set to make his Gabon debut against CĂ´te d’Ivoire in Libreville on 14 June, he was ruled out due to administrative issues.
And Mario Lemina will have to wait a bit longer before earning his first cap for the Panthers, after his deadline day move to Juventus kept him out of Gabon’s 4-0 win over Sudan on Saturday.
“I chose Gabon, and I am very happy about it,” he told RMC.
“I signed all the papers and have agreed with the federation. I am waiting for my first game with the national team, which had to be postponed as I was in the process of moving to Juventus.
“They understood, and I hope I will be able to play in Gabon’s next match.”
Lemina joined the Serie A giants from Olympique Marseille for a season-long loan for €1.5 million on 31 August, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
