Oliseh Soft-pedals On Players’ Invitation
Speaking via his personal blog, sundayolisehtv.com, the newly appointed coach of the Super Eagles affirmed that lower division goalkeepers will be allowed to play for Nigeria because they fall into a different category.
“Of course, this applies to field players because goalkeepers are a different breed as we call them,” Oliseh said yesterday, as he tried to clarify his earlier remark which seemed to have knocked out any player not in the top division in the respective countries they play.
“Also, there could be some exception for players who are excelling in the second division.
“The players in the first division are used to a certain level, tempo and competition standards because of what the first division entails.
“For this reason, we need the best who are already used to playing at this tempo to serve and play for Nigeria.
“Also players that are already in the national fold – from the U-17 to the U-23 are also exempted from the first division rules,” he said.
