RED HOT AWONIYI GRABS HAT TRICK

Taiwo Awoniyi grabs a second half hat-trick as the Flying Eagles walloped Hoffenheim's U23s 5-2 in their first friendly game in preparation for the Under-20 World Youth Championship.

Saviour Godwin got the Eagles off to a flying start but the German level things up after some poor defending from the Nigerians.

Chidera Ezeh restored Nigeria's  lead but the Germans once again restored parity as both teams head into the half time break level at 2-2.

The second half got off to a slow start but the introduction of Nigeria Under-20 top striker Taiwo Awoniyi changed the complexion of the game.

He was introduced with 35 minutes left to play and the gangling forward proved his rating as one of Nigeria hottest teen prospect by firing a hat-trick to secure a 5-2 win for Nigeria.

Despite the heavy scoreline, Coach Manu Garba was unhappy that his boys let in two goals and made errors that he feel might hurt the team at the tournament proper.

"We deserve to win base on our performance but there is still room for improvement going forward we got it right but we made some mistake in defending,"
With Awoniyi's form at the moment, one can only wonder how the granada striker Isaac Success would square up in the team. Recall, Awoniyi got his opportunity when Isaac Success sustained injury in Under 17 world cup and has not looked back .
