ALIANZ THE ROAST...

bayern porto
Following a disastrous 3-1 loss at the Estadio Do Dragao in Portugal 6 days ago, many suggested Bayern Munich’s chances of making it to their fourth straight UEFA Champions League semifinals were very slim but 22 minutes into the second leg at the Allianz Arena, Bayern were already ahead in the tie and the German Champions would go on to win the game 6-1 to qualify for the semifinal for the fourth time in as many years.
Thiago put the German side ahead in the 14th minute with a sublime header after Bernat crossed the ball in from the left wing. Eight minutes later, Bayern took control of the tie on away goals as Jerome Boateng was on hand to nod the ball in after Holger Badstuber had directed a header his was following a cross into the box. Porto were simply no match for Bayern were on a different level tonight with their smooth passage of play. 5 minutes later, another header, this time from Robert Lewandowski made it 3-0 on the night and suddenly Bayern were ahead 4-3 in the tie. Muller not wanting to be left out fired a shot from distance in the 36th minute. His shot took a wicked deflection of Martins Indi and beat the Porto goalkeeper to make it 4-0. Lewandowski made it 5-0 in the 40th minute with a sublime finish after he was set up by Muller. The second half was played at a much slower pace and Martinez was allowed to head the ball in from close range by the Bayern in the 73rd minute, giving the Portuguese side a lifeline but in the 88th minute, Bayern Munich had the last word via Alonso who curled in a free after Marcano had been sent off.
Guardiola would particularly be happy with the result as he marked his 100th game in charge of the Bravarians in style.
