Aaron: Egypt Won’t Stop Eagles’ 2017 AFCON Dream
Super Eagles, winners in 2013, were absent at the 2015 edition of the African flagship championship in Equatorial Guinea won by the Elephants of Ivory Coast.
Nigeria is logged in group E of the qualifiers alongside Egypt, Tanzania and Chad with the elimination series billed to get off the ground in June.
The 20-year-old Guangzhou R&F of China forward who has just recovered from a shoulder injury is emphatic in his conviction that the three time African champions will qualify from the group ahead of Egypt.
“We’ve learnt from mistakes we made in the past which stopped us from going to the 2015 AFCON”, starts Samuel who has scored two goals for the Super Eagles in six games.
“We’re looking forward to the qualifiers and the 2017 tournament in Gabon.
“Egypt is no doubt a strong opposition, though others in the group are tough also. But surely they cannot qualify ahead of us.
“We’ll take the games seriously and as they come too. To qualify for the AFCON, or any other major championship, its important you take points from away games and this we’ll ensure we do.
“I’ve come to understand that picking points away from home is key to qualification.
“AFCON 2015 was an eye opener for us and hopefully it won’t happen again”, the former Dolphins of Port Harcourt forward emphasized.
