Ideye to earn 3.5 Million Euros Annual Wages To play with Mikel At Tianjin Teda.

Chinese Super League club Tianjin Teda are working on a deal to sign Brown Ideye from Olympiakos before the close of their primary transfer window next week.

Greek Super League champions Olympiakos are close to agreeing a transfer fee of eleven million euros with the team from China.

If both clubs can strike terms, the contract Ideye will sign with Tianjin Teda will see him pocket 3.5 million euros per season wages, three times more that his current wages in Greece.

The Nigeria international previously had spells with Neuchâtel Xamax, Sochaux, Dynamo Kiev and West Brom before he was snapped up by Olympiakos 18 months ago.

Super Eagles skipper John Obi Mikel penned a three-year deal with Tianjin Teda last month.

Chima Okoroji Makes The Step Up At Augsburg

image
Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr will no doubt monitor the progress of ex Bayern Munich Nigerian teen prospect Chima Okoroji who has just made the step up to the B team of Augsburg.
Rohr is looking to bolster his option at left full back with Elderson Echiejile the only credible option in the role, no thanks to Kingsley Madu lack of game time at Belgian side Zulte-Waregem.
Although Okoroji might not be an instant solution, his progress could however be monitored especially if he makes his first team bow before the end of the season.
Already he has made the step up from the U-19s to the B team within a space of one year, with just one more step to the main team, he could make his debut anytime soon.
19 year old Okoroji joined Augsburg on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in January 2015 after three years at the Allianz Arena where he failed to make a professional appearance for the Germany.

Anibaba To Dump USA For Nigeria

image
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have made contact with former USA junior international Jalil Anibaba, over a potential switch from the country of his birth and play for Nigeria at international level.
we gathered that a directive from coach Gernot Rohr to the Technical Committee of the NFF, instructing them to search for credible options for the right and left back role of the team forced the approach.
Rohr has used four right full back in three games as coach of the Super Eagles and the Franco-German coach is also unhappy that Elderson Echiejile still remains his only credible option at left back.
28 year old Anibaba plays for Houston Dynamo in the Major League Soccer (MLS), and represented the junior teams of America in 2007, but he is yet to play for them at full international level.
” We have identified a Nigerian right full back Jalil Anibaba, who plays in the MLS. He fits the bill of what the coach instructed us to get for him. Contacts have been established with his relatives, but serious talks will be initiated once the coach gives his go ahead”, a member of the Technical Committee

AMUZIE TO PROVIDE COVER TO ECHEGILE, MADU.
image
Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr who is short of options at left back has narrowed his search towards Nigeria’s Rio 2016 defender Stanley Amuzie, in his bid to provide cover for Elderson Echiejile.
Amuzie who moved to Sampdoria this summer after starring for Nigeria at the Olympics is viewed by many as an option at left back for the Super Eagles, who are incredibly short of options in that position.
So far Echiejile is the only option at left back for Nigeria as Kingsley Madu has failed to sufficiently challenge him for the position despite been included in the last three squads named by coach Gernot Rohr.
” We won’t rest in our search for options at left back even though am happy with the options at our disposal right now. There’s always a desire to improve on what you have, the boy who played left back at the Olympics is one of our options”
” He needs to play games for Sampdoria for us to properly assess him. We saw his qualities at the Olympics but that was just for few games, hopefully if he starts playing games for Sampdoria then there’s every hope he would be called up”.

Coventry City count on Yakubu's expereince for goalsStruggling Coventry City count on Yakubu goals and experience

Coventry City completed the signing of Yakubu on a deal which will run till the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

The 34-year old striker has wealth of experience in English football having played for Portsmouth and Middlesborough, Blackburn Rovers, Everton, Leicester City and Reading.

The team coach Russell Slade said he is happy to have the Nigeria striker in his team.

"We’re pleased to have secured the signing of Yakubu, who brings vast experience and a terrific goal record,” he told the club’s website.

“His professional career speaks for itself, having scored consistently at the highest level of English football, and will act as a superb role model for the younger players.

“He is astute on the ball, has clear quality and presence, and we’ll continue to work on his match fitness as we prepare for the final 16 games of this season.”

Yakubu will wear jersey number 22 for Coventry.
IHEANACHO WILL GET HIS CHANCE...MIKEL
image
Super Eagles captain and legend John Mikel Obi who spent ten and half years at English Premier League giants Chelsea has advised Kelechi Iheanacho on his future at Manchester City.
Iheanacho has been frozen out of the first team set up at the Manchester City as the 20 year old has failed to make the matchday squad in their last five games in all competitions.
Mikel who is no stranger to battling for shirts with star names says the competition in the Man City team, that has kept Iheanacho out of the team will help him become a better player in the future.
” Iheanacho will become a better player after this phase, he is a strong lad, a very positive minded being and level headed. He will regain his spot in the team, he just have to keep on working hard in training and wait for his chance, when it comes I know he won’t disappoint.
” Every player wants to play and when you are not getting into the matchday squad it can be so discouraging. But I have learnt to always pick the positives from all situation”, Mikel told

Ramsey ‘bottled it’; Wenger should have a word – Deeney

Watford striker Troy Deeney believes Aaron Ramsey “bottled it” in Arsenal’s recent defeat to the Hornets.
The Gunners have lost their last two games in the Premier League, the latest of which came against Chelsea on Saturday.
But their recent struggles began with the 2-1 defeat to Watford at the end of January, with the Hornets stunning the Emirates Stadium in picking up their first ever Premier League win over Wenger’s side.
Ramsey started and played just 19 minutes of the fixture, but was at fault for both early goals as Younes Kaboul and Deeney handed the visitors a two-goal lead. The Welshman was named our early loser for that gameweek.
Alex Iwobi got one back on the hour mark, but Arsenal were unable to salvage even a point.
Deeney believes that Ramsey’s “mistake” cost the Gunners dear.
“I think he bottled it a little bit,” the captain said. “Ramsey’s mistake was our blessing.
“I have come up with Sean Dyche and Malky Mackay and if we had turned our back on the ball like that, they would have had strong words with us.”

BENZEMA, CARASCO OFF...

BENZEMA TO ARSENAL (AGAIN)
The caveat on this story on The Sun website is that it does not come from one of their senior journalists but a man called Gary Stonehouse, who has taken it upon himself to regurgitate every ‘Benzema to Arsenal’ story ever written with a scoop that begins thus: ‘REAL MADRID are ready to sell Karim Benzema for £50million, leaving long-standing potential suitors Arsenal on red alert.’
Apparently, this summer ‘could be’ the one where Benzema leaves, the Premier League ‘may well be’ the stage he is looking for, though Chelsea ‘could well be’ on the hunt for a new striker. Coulda shoulda woulda…

HAKAN HE JOIN CHELSEA?
Well, he might. According to the MailOnline, ‘Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu hopes to join Premier League leaders Chelsea this summer’. Well of course he does; they’re about to become Premier League champions.
“God willing, I will be a Chelsea player next season,” Calhanoglu told Turkish newspaper Fanatik. “There are also a number of other clubs interested in signing me.”
As he is currently serving a four-month ban for reneging on a contract agreement in Turkey, we’re not entirely sure we should take everything he says at face value.

AND THE REST
Watford are already planning to make French striker M’Baye Niang’s loan move from AC Milan permanent in the summer…Uruguay defender Martin Caceres has turned down a move to AC Milan and is considering a move to Crystal Palace or Southampton…Tottenham Hotspur and Everton ready to battle over the signature of 18-year-old Feyenoord striker Ozancan Kokca.
ARSENAL AND CHELSEA WANT CARRASCO
Like God on the fourth day of creation, we’re starting with The Sun. Duncan Wright writes that Arsenal and Chelsea want to battle Paris St Germain and Bayern Munich to sign Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco.
Now we’re not saying Wright’s piece is low on detail, but Wright’s piece is low on detail. He says that ‘Arsenal and Chelsea lead the pack of clubs from the Premier League in the hunt for Carrasco’s signature’, which is fine, but then says that they face stiff competition ‘if’ they want to sign him. Erm, you just said they did?
Wright then mentions a fee of £40m, before saying that those funds are available ‘if manager Arsene Wenger finally decides to spend big overhauling his squad’. Again, it was you that just said they wanted him.

CHELSEA WANT LUKAKU AND CANCELO
Well how lovely. Duncan Castles as stopped talking to Jose Mourinho for long enough to bring us a transfer exclusive on the Yahoo Sport website.
Castles claims that Chelsea plan a summer raid for Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo and former striker Romelu Lukaku. That’s amid reports that Conte is already planning how to avoid Chelsea’s post title-winning slump of 2015/16, with the club feeling the benefit of a lack of European football this season.
Another interesting line in the Castles report is his claim that Chelsea wanted a fee of €150m for Diego Costa to leave in January, and that Lukaku was targeted in January.

LIVERPOOL TO RIVAL MANCHESTER CITY FOR AUBAMEYANG
Ahoy there, and welcome to the good ship transfer guff. After the vessel was sat in port for a week following the close of the transfer window, it has now set sail and is clipping along at a rate of knots. Can you tell I’ve never actually been on board a sailing boat or yacht?
Aaanyway, The Sun have an exclusive from Paul Jiggins, and that exclusive is that Jurgen Klopp would quite like to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, one of Europe’s best strikers and a player Klopp has previously worked with. I know, we were shocked too.
Jiggins writes that Aubameyang would cost £40m – we’d be surprised if it isn’t more – and that the move would be funded by selling Daniel Sturridge to West Ham. Impressively, Jiggins manages to get through the piece without mentioning the words ‘Real’ or ‘Madrid’, the club who are the clear current favourites to sign Aubameyang.
Also, can we just have a moment for the abbreviation ‘P-EY’.

AND THE REST
Rivaldo’s son has joined Dinamo Bucharest… Barcelona are set to bid for Monaco’s young midfielder Bernardo Silva… Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye has admitted he is “flattered” by interest from Marseille… Arsenal have agreed a deal for Nigerian wonderkid Lateef Omidiji Jr, according to reports… Thibaut Courtois’ agent is in contact with Real Madrid every day… Barcelona are ready to beat Manchester United to the signing of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof… Bayern Munich have rejected Barcelona’s offer for 18-year-old attacking midfielder Timothy Tillman.
IHEANACHO DESERVE TO PLAY. GUARDIOLA
image
Pep Guardiola has replied fans of the club who are keen on knowing why Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho is no longer in the team.
Iheanacho has not been listed in the last three matchday squad of the club, and he appears to have lost his spot since the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus.
The Brazilian scored both goals against Swansea City, his third goals in as many games. A form that has also kept star forward Sergio Aguero on the bench.
Shortly after the Swansea City game Guardiola spoke on the difficulties of leaving some players out of the team including Kelechi Iheanacho.
“It has not been easy for Sergio, but there are five guys in this position and he remains one of the most important players in our squad.
“He’s going to play with and without Gabriel, but today I decided to stick with the three guys up front because they played so well against Palace and West Ham
“His reaction to not starting today was perfect. Don’t worry about that. It is difficult to leave players like Bravo, Fernando, Otamendi and Kelechi out because they all deserve to play.”
IHEANACHO HAPPY WITH GABRIEL JESUS FORM.

” The team comes first and Jesus is doing just what the team need to maintain their push for a strong finish at the end of the season, why would Iheanacho be envious of him?”

Iheanacho has failed to make the bench in the three consecutive games the Brazilian has been selected for Manchester City, but the Nigerian is him to continue in his rich vein of form.
” No hard feelings, at least not from a consummate and hard working professional like Iheanacho. He congratulated Jesus the next day and training after his brace against Swansea City”.
” Jesus is yet to understand English but Iheanacho was still able to pass his message across to him and they both laughed over it. He has Iheanacho’s backing.

TEVEZ AND MARTINS CRASHES OUT OF ASIAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Argentinian star Carlos Tevez was disappointed after Shanghai Shenhua crashed out of the AFC Champions League, losing 2-0 to Australian opponents Brisbane Roar on his competitive debut.

After the game, Tevez took a dig at his own teammates, including Obafemi Martins, stating that they did not play with enough intensity.

“I want to win, I also want to score, but we lost, we played very badly, ” said Tevez, according to Netease Sports.

Martins has been Shanghai Shenhua’s most outstanding player, and by a mile, since the start of pre-season, having notched a hat-trick against YSCC Yokohama, a brace against Sydney United and the winner vs Gwangju FC in warm-up matches.

The former Inter Milan and Newcastle United striker lasted the distance against Brisbane Roar on his maiden appearance in the AFC Champions League.
English FA hails Ndidi :

He Was Leicester City Hero
The English FA via its official website has showered Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi with praise after scoring for Leicester City in their 3-1 win versus Derby County in the Emirates FA Cup on Wednesday.

The Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri made several changes to his side, one of which saw his number 25 drop to the bench,  ahead of the crucial Premier League clash against Swansea City on Sunday.

With the scoreboard reading 1-1, Ndidi came off the bench in the 91st minute, before notching his first goal for the club he joined in January three minutes later with a stunning 25-yard shot that beat goalkeeper Mitchell.

In its report of the match, the English FA stated : “Yet just four minutes after coming off the bench, Ndidi proved the Foxes hero, ghosting his way through to unleash a fantastic strike in off the post, while Mitchell had to have his wits about him to prevent a second for King”.

The 20-year-old Ndidi penned a five-and-a-half-year contract with Leicester City.
NWAKALI JOINS TIPPELIGAN ON LOAN

Tippeligaen club Sogndal Fotball of Norway have announced the loan signing of Nigeria youth international Chidiebere Nwakali from Manchester City.

The 20-year-old central midfielder has penned a contract that will keep him at Sogndal Fotball until August 2017.

The deal has ended speculations about his future, with earlier reports linking him with possible moves to Germany, Netherlands and France.

“There were several clubs that wanted him, but he chose us. We see clearly that he is at a high level, ” sporting director Håvard Flo said to the official website.

“This is a serious and ambitious boy. He is a special and exciting talent.”

Nwakali spent the whole of last season at another Norwegian club IK Start, and appeared 22 times in the league, scoring 3 goals.
Efe Ambrose Turned Down Valencia, Told He Is Not Eligible For Work Permit.

Efe Ambrose was offered to  Valencia in LaLiga before the opening of the transfer window but the Super Eagles defender turned down the proposal because he wished to remain in the United Kingdom.

At that time, Efe Ambrose was told in clear terms by the intermediary that recommended him to Valencia that he does not qualify for a work permit in England.

Blackburn Rovers are still awaiting the decision of the Home Office before completing the signing of Celtic defender Efe Ambrose.

Nine days have passed since the Championship outfit agreed to sign the Nigeria international on loan for the remainder of the season, but the authorities have yet to ratify the transfer simply because he has not played enough games for the Super Eagles in the last two years.

The former Kaduna United and MS Ashdod star is out of favour at Celtic, and has not played a single game in the Scottish Premiership since after his blunders in Champions league against Barcelona.

The Boy Is Good – Gary Neville

image
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has saluted the performances of Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi despite the 0-3 loss suffered by Leicester City in the hands of Neville’s former club Manchester United.
Neville who was in the studio as a pundit during the course of the game, praised the Nigerian for keeping the world most expensive player Paul Pogba silent for the entire duration of the game.
Ndidi who was voted Leicester City man of the match by the BBC made a good impression on the former Valencia boss, who described his performance as near perfect.
” I can’t fault his (Ndidi) performance, he was very big in the game. He made Pogba a passenger in the middle. The boy is good in tackles and he is not afraid of running with the ball either”, Neville said.
” He got Pogba booked and was fouled severally, that said I can’t remember when he fouled any opponent. He did well despite how poor his team were on the day”.

Neymar Junior admits frustration in lack of goals

Barcelona star Neymar has revealed that his shortage of goals this season is frustrating, but insists it doesn't affect his confidence.
The Brazilian forward enjoyed sensational goal tallies over the last two seasons, netting a total of 70, but has so far scored only nine times in 2016/17.
The 25-year-old has, however, contributed with 17 assists this campaign, including seven in the Champions League.
"It's difficult when you're not scoring, especially when you're a forward, where the expectations are higher," he said in an interview with Red Bull.
"So, yes, it's bad, it's annoying, but it's not my biggest worry. I concentrate on winning matches; it doesn't matter if it's me or a teammate that scores.
"Whenever the game is won then I worry about scoring and ending my jinx - but no, I'm not concerned!"

Top ten PL players available for free this summer

Which players are likely to be eligible bachelors this summer, with their contracts at  current clubs expiring? Santi Cazorla would top this list because he is a beautiful little Spaniard, but it seems that he has extended his Arsenal deal despite it never being officially announced. Instead, we’re looking at players who could well leave when their time is up.
Honourable mentions to: Fraizer Campbell, Damien Delaney, Martin Kelly, Marcin Wasilewski, Alex Manninger, Gael Clichy, Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna, Jesus Navas, Glen Johnson, John O’Shea and Nathan Dyer. Fun fact: Only three of those players have never won the Premier League title.

10. Arouna Kone (Everton)
Fredi Bobic. Somen Tchoyi. Aruna Dindane. Leon Best. Whatever fate has in store for Arouna Kone this summer, his status as one of the more unheralded goalscorers of a hat-trick in Premier League history is guaranteed. It was in November 2015 when the Ivorian struck half of his six league goals for Everton in 90 ridiculous minutes against Sunderland.
Things have seldom been as successful for the 33-year-old, who has not scored since in the league and who has found his minutes restricted due to injuries and a severe case of not being Romelu Lukaku. Crystal Palace pursued his signature this winter, but could not quite push the deal over the line. It is understood that Roberto Martinez is working on a deal to sign him for Belgium.

9. Adrian (West Ham)
In the battle of the 30-something back-up goalkeepers, Julian Speroni and Gerhard Tremmel take their rightful places on the bench as Adrian is granted some air time. The Spaniard was imperious last season, his domestic performances earning a first international call-up, but his form has dropped like a catch from a looping cross this campaign. The 30-year-old started the season as West Ham’s No 1, but conceding 20 goals as the club lost six of their first 11 league games saw him lose his place to Darren Randolph.
Heck, even if you remain unconvinced by his résumé, you cannot knock his ability to model giant foam hands in the shape of stadiums.

8. Charlie Adam (Stoke)
Do you remember when Sir Alex Ferguson described Charlie Adam’s corners as “worth £10m”, as it emerged that the Manchester United manager was considering the then-Blackpool stalwart as a potential replacement for Paul Scholes? He has the terrible tackling down to a tee, to be fair, as well as the withering punditry.
Adam has enjoyed a career renaissance this season. Having started the campaign on the periphery of the Stoke squad, he has sh*thoused his way back into Mark Hughes’ plans and thus closed in on a one-year extension on his current deal. If he can help deliver that coveted ninth place, the oldest 31-year-old in history can make any demand he wants.

7. Joe Ledley (Crystal Palace)
Joe Ledley makes the same number of tackles per game in the Premier League (1.3) as Adama Diomande. Joe Ledley makes the same number of interceptions per game in the Premier League (1.6) as an immobile Michael Dawson. Joe Ledley has scored fewer Premier League goals this season (1) than Younes Kaboul. Joe Ledley creates as many goalscoring opportunities per game in the Premier League (0.3) as Marcos Rojo. Joe Ledley completes as many dribbles per game in the Premier League (0.3) as Peter Crouch.
Aside from letting his Selhurst Park contract expire at the end of the season, what does Joe Ledley actually do? No doubt Palace fans will be along shortly to tell us.

6. Chris Brunt (West Brom)
Tony Pulis likes to live life on the edge. He eats oranges without removing the pips. He does not keep off the grass. He doesn’t change his mattress every eight years (because who bloody does?). He steals pens from Argos. He yearns for his football teams to take a two-goal lead because he revels in the inherent peril of football’s most dangerous scoreline. And he allows the contracts of three of his West Brom lynchpins to run down heading into the summer. Jonas Olsson and Gareth McAuley, a full 70 years of tall centre-half between them, will play the situation by ear, but Chris Brunt has surely earned himself a new deal at The Hawthorns. The 32-year-old has three goals and three assists in the Premier League this season, has a dynamite left foot, and he really would not fit anywhere else.

5. Jan Kirchhoff (Sunderland)
“Jan’s experience of that match was massive for him. He saw, in one fell swoop, what the Premier League was all about and how difficult it is compared to being in Germany, where he knows the language and the players and how comfortable it is.”
The above comments came from the gravy-covered mouth of Sam Allardyce, the future and former England manager discussing one of the greatest Premier League debuts in history. Jan Kirchhoff was introduced as a second-half substitute for Sunderland in a game against Tottenham in January 2016, having signed that same month. He turned his back and deflected a Christian Eriksen shot past his own keeper with one of his first touches, before later conceding a penalty. It wasn’t great.
But then Allardyce moved him into central midfield and, from there, Kirchhoff was a relative success. The German played a huge role in Sunderland’s survival, and David Moyes must hope he can repeat the trick if he manages to recover from a second serious injury of the season. He will be fighting for his future too, with his contract expiring in the summer.

4. John Terry (Chelsea)
It was this time last year that England’s lion finally jumped the shark. Not a man to be upstaged or cast as an afterthought, John Terry thought it necessary to publicly announce after an FA Cup fourth-round win over MK Dons that he would be leaving Chelsea at the end of the season. “I was in last week before the Arsenal game and it [contract] is not going to be extended,” he said, before making it clear that this was Chelsea’s decision, not his.
The official reply was almost instant, and made Terry look a spoilt child. “John was advised that while no new deal was currently on the table, that situation could change in the coming months,” said a club spokesperson. And so it did; Antonio Conte ensured that the captain was offered a new one-year contract extension.
Fast-forward 12 months, and there will be no such reprieve this season for the 36-year-old, who last started a Premier League game in September. At least it means he can concentrate on trying to fast-track himself into a coaching job.

3. Lucas Leiva (Liverpool)
Jamie Carragher was at his generous best when he explained how a defence featuring Lucas Leiva as your third-choice centre-back was “probably not enough if you want to go and win the title”. The man who spent all of January flirting with Inter Milan has started four games at the heart of a troubled defence this season; Liverpool have conceded seven goals in those fixtures, which came against Leicester, Watford, Bournemouth and Hull.
There is something quite comforting about Lucas being Liverpool’s current longest-serving player. He is willing, but not always able. He is often hilarious to watch. He was better under Rafa. And he is not quite good enough.
When the 30-year-old does leave – and it will surely be this summer – that would mean that Jordan Henderson takes his mantle as Anfield’s most loyal servant; he joined five-and-a-half years ago. Jon Flanagan would be next, followed by Andre Wisdom. What a world.

2. Michael Carrick (Manchester United)
It’s that time of year again
, when we suggest that Michael Carrick would be an ideal signing for Newcastle while he is busy being linked with a ridiculous move to Arsenal. Manchester United have never, ever, ever, ever lost when the Wallsend boy has been within at least five miles of Old Trafford, but his long-term future might lie elsewhere.
Jose Mourinho likes him, that much is obvious, but the 35-year-old’s age will count against him. Carrick is arguably already being phased out; he sits directly below Marouane Fellaini and above Chris Smalling in terms of Premier League minutes for United this season. That is quite the stodgy sandwich, one which is just as liable to elbow through your digestive system as metronomically pass through it.

1. Yaya Sanogo (Arsenal)
Hey, he’s in Arsenal’s Champions League squad. More than anyone can say for you, pal.

1. Yaya Toure (Manchester City)
What a bloody turnaround. It took Yaya Toure a few months to tell Dimitri Seluk to just be bloody quiet, but the midfielder’s performances since his return to Manchester City have been excellent. He has helped thaw the frosty mood around the Etihad Stadium, returning from having been frozen out himself.
Of City’s five defeats this season, just two have come with Toure starting. Only Sergio Aguero (11) and Raheem Sterling (5) have scored more Premier League goals for Pep Guardiola’s side this campaign (4). City win 68.75% of their games in all competitions with Toure starting, compared to 55% without.
All of the above has accomplished two things: It has helped earn him either a new contract or a lovely move elsewhere, and it has ensured that I will spend May 13 locked in a dark room with no internet or other contact with the outside world. Will the internet be able to cope with the birthday cake-related banter on the Ivorian’s birthday?

Selling Sanchez and Ozil the logical move for Arsenal

Selling Ozil and Sanchez the only way forward
As an Arsenal fan currently watching our latest implosion a feeling has grown in me that would seem to go against all logic. I’m starting to think it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if we lost either Sanchez or Ozil or whisper it gently, maybe even both?
To start with Sanchez, I think his attitude has been shocking in recent months. I don’t buy into all this “oh but he’s a born winner” nonsense. If he was a born winner then surely it wouldn’t be too much to ask to pull his finger out against Watford? Or maybe even pass the ball to one of his teammates against Chelsea? I’m no expert but if I was going to hold a club ransom for 200 grand a week I’d make sure my performances warranted it. I’ve heard people but Sanchez in the same bracket as Henry. Would Barca have sold Henry to us in his prime?
Ozil is a different kettle of fish. Although he seems like an introverted character I do believe that he likes the club and respects his teammates. He is also an absolutely outstanding talent. However, the guy just doesn’t have any bottle whatsoever. I think he needs to be at a huge club like Barca or Madrid where he can lay on assist after glorious assist without the pressures of being the main man or having all the spotlight placed upon him. It’s a shame but he has underperformed (considering his immense talent) 50 or 60% of the time since he has arrived here and I don’t think we will ever see the best of him for Arsenal.
Where do we go from there? I don’t have a clue, but a new incoming manager with a solid group of existing players and an additional 120 or so million to spend might have his own ideas?
ER AFC

Be careful not to go overboard on Silva
I want to ask a question that has arisen in my mind having read the last few mailboxes, and that is: Are we going a bit OTT with Marco Silva? The guy has come in and done a very good job in the games Hull have played since his arrival, on that we agree. But this is from an incredibly small sample size of around 8 games, which feels far too small with which to start touting him for the hypothetical Spurs job, for instance (see afternoon mailbox).
Now I hope he turns out to be brilliant, believe me when I say this, I am certainly not in the Merson/Thompson camp of only approving an appointment if they’re a former player with 1 degree of separation from Peter Reid, but to label him a huge success at this point seems to be jumping the gun somewhat, and leaves us all open to return schadenfreude reaction if it does go horribly wrong in the near future.
Can we just see it for what it is? A promising start and an excellent platform for him to build on, and not let our enjoyment of what it might eventually do to Messrs Merson and Thompson cloud our judgement and overstate his performance at this early stage.
(NB: I don’t mind if Hull fans throw around some hyperbole, that’s expected.)

We need some perspective on Leicester
Lots of radio debate Sunday about Ranieri being in trouble, whether he should be allowed to remain in his job because of last season no matter what, or do they need to bite the bullet. I’m neither here nor there personally but the media seem to be rounding on the players who are supposedly under-performing and saying Claudio is blameless. I’ve heard things like they’re too big for their boots and are no longer playing with any heart. Don’t agree. It’s double standards.
Leicester overachieved last season.
1) They got a head of steam partially through not being taken seriously for half a season, then rode a wave of confidence and deservedly saw it through in crunch time.
2) They had no europe while their contenders did.
3) as a result of 2, They maintained a settled team where others were rotating
4) They had Kante
5) Huth and Morgan WWE’d their way through games in both penalty boxes
This season the Foxes are into opposition raising their game territory, there’s no more ‘under the radar’ element so it’s really tough to get any momentum.
They are in Europe, a massive distraction, and has triggered squad rotation, a totally new dynamic. Kante is gone. And the 2 security guards are no longer allowed to toss people out of their path to win headers owing to the shirt pull/grapple clampdown.
These are all major factors that were always going to manifest themselves negatively this year, and this is a struggle for manager and players alike. It’s not through a lack of effort from Danny Simpson that teams are now making Leicester earn it.
It’s down to circumstance and a degree of natural progression. Defending the premier league is always hard, even more so when the title winning season was built on circumstances that no longer apply. These players need a bit more respect.
If it was Ranieri’s success last year then it is his failure this time. Likewise the players. You can’t praise one or defend one without the other.
JG Spurs

Erm, who are England’s strikers now?
The section on Andy Carroll and England’s strikers in W&L got me thinking – if the England squad was being chosen this week on current form and merit, not on past glories or last season or whatever, who would actually be in with a shout as a striker for the national team?
I was going to do a breakdown of who’s scored how many goals but stats get boring. So on current form, I’d keep Kane but bin Rooney, Sturridge and Vardy, then include Defoe and Carroll and possibly Crouch (with the idea being that AC and PC are never on the pitch at the same time – too little mobility & pace between them) and then keep Rashford in there, more because as a young player under Jose he’ll feel that he has a point to prove so hopefully produce something special.
I know a lot will disagree with that – so I’m interested to hear what other Mailboxers would do?

Another reason to stay away from FAN TV
Firstly, can I say that was an excellent article on Fan TV and as a Spurs fan I can assure you I do enjoy watching the arsenal rants whenever they lose! (plenty on Twitter let along Arsenal Fan TV!)
The article raises a cracking point about agencies getting involved with them and it’s the reason I don’t watch SpurredOn, Before watching it I saw that a particularly vocal tweeter who is quite openly a sky journalist along with being a spurs fan said they were going to be working on it. As soon as people like that get into doing these sorts of things then you know it’s starting to be about money than being about representing fans. Therefore giving these people views and clicks is pointless.
Unfortunately whatever people come up with in the current age and money in the game then people will always look to turn it into profit for themselves.

GOAL!!
The movement of the ball was truly amazing. Every Player touched it, One-Two’s aplenty and it was a perfect combination of Team effort meets Moments of individual brilliance.
It had our Right back doing FOUR One-Twos, then running into the left winger position before playing a perfect Rebona to our “industrious” centre midfielder who played a perfect backheel slip to our waiting Centre forward who then slotted home to complete a hat-trick, 3 goalswithin 30 minutes of being on the pitch.
No doubt 99% of readers are now giving it “Its just Scotland (yawn)” but you won’t hear any Celtic fans complain whatsoever.

AGUERO, DEGEA AND LORRIS FEATURES ON TRANSFER GOSSIP....
To the Daily Telegraph first, and a report from Matt Law about the goalkeeping situation at Real Madrid. Law writes that Real are after a new goalkeeper this summer, and that they believe Hugo Lloris will be easier to prise away from his London club than Thibaut Courtois will be from his.
Law is keen to point out that there is no suggesting that Lloris or Tottenham are prepared to entertain a move, but in the player’s case that must surely depend on Champions League qualification?
Unfortunately, Law then also mentions that David de Gea is high up on Real Madrid’s list, which makes us yearn for August 2015 and ‘broken fax machines’. It was simpler time, when N’Golo Kante was a relatively unknown midfielder, Donald Trump was just the host of the Apprentice and *Googles 2016 crazes* nobody knew what extreme phone pinching, thighbrows or the shot glass challenge were.

EVERY BUGGER WANTS AGUERO
Weird that when the best striker in the Premier League (no, not Romelu Lukaku) gets left out his side for two consecutive games, every elite club in the world thinks ‘We’ll have a piece of that’. And by weird, I mean entirely predictable. Take a deep breath:
– The Daily Mail say that Paris St Germain are targeting Aguero and Alexis Sanchez.
– The Daily Express say that Real Madrid are dead keen on Aguero.
– The Sun say that Pep Guardiola will try to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if he sells Aguero.
– The Daily Star say that Aguero has been told to stay and fight for his place at Manchester City.
Summary: Lots of agents are saying lots of things and nobody really has a clue.

LIVERPOOL TO BEAT MAN UNITED TO FOREST KID
The big clubs were circling even before Ben Brereton scored his first Nottingham Forest goal against Aston Villa on Saturday, but that last-minute winner live on Sky Sports has only increased the speculation surrounding the 17-year-old. He doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page yet.
In the Daily Mirror, Adrian Kajumba reports that Liverpool are determined to win the race to sign the striker after having a £2.5m bid rejected in the January transfer window. They will look to go in again in the summer, with Manchester United also keen on making a move this summer.
You do have to ask yourself why Brereton would take the move. Of course the money is good and the club incredibly prestigious, but United already have Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and plenty of talented young players too. Stay for two more years, establish yourself in the first team, go to a club like Southampton where you can hope to be given opportunities to progress rather than being shunted out on loan and then move from there to an elite club if it works out. Basically, speak to Pat Bamford.

AND THE REST
Antonio Conte was at the Juventus Stadium to watch his former club take on Inter Milan – and left just as reported transfer target Paulo Dybala was substituted… Arsenal and West Ham will have to meet a £60m buyout clause to secure Alexandre Lacazette… Former Wolves, Reading and Fulham striker Seol Ki-hyeon has been appointed South Korea’s assistant manager… Aston Villa are going up against Arsenal by keeping tabs on Blackpool winger Bright Osayi-Samuel, according to reports… Southampton are in discussions over a deal for free agent Martin Caceres. The 29-year-old defender had a trial spell with Crystal Palace last week but they opted against making him an offer… Leicester’s players are facing a 40 per cent cut in their wages if they are relegated.

Antonio Martial dispels exit rumour

Antony Martial has hit back at a report suggesting he is looking for a Manchester United exit in the summer.
The striker has been in and out of Jose Mourinho’s XI all season, with the manager repeatedly saying that Martial must earn his place with his performances when given the opportunity.
The France star has scored twice in the Premier League having completed 90 minutes only once all season.
The Mirror reported on Sunday that Martial felt he was being squeezed out by Mourinho, with a move to PSG the most likely outcome.
But Martial used Twitter to respond to those reports on Monday.
Mourinho’s tough love approach appears to have done the trick with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the United boss hopes a similar approach will benefit Martial in the long term.
The manager hit out at Martial’s agent in December following reports the attacker was being lined up for a move away fro United.
“Anthony has to listen to me and not his agent,” Mourinho said.
“With Martial, every day I read the newspaper; ‘Martial goes to Sevilla’, ‘Martial goes on loan’, ‘Martial is not happy’. Martial has to listen to me. He is a player with amazing conditions to be a top player.
“I know that he is a top talent, I knew that Mkhitaryan was a top talent and I was not playing him. In this moment he [Mkhitaryan] even plays left-back when the team is winning, to defend with a little bit more balance.
“The Mkhitaryan process, I was having almost every day Mkhitaryan’s agent calling me and saying he will be a better player with you, keep going.”

Obi is back in action for Torino

Injury-prone Joel Obi back in action for Torino
Nigeria midfielder Joel Obi was back in action for his Serie A side Torino on Sunday as they drew 1-1 at Empoli.

The former Parma and Inter Milan  player, who suffered a muscle injury on January 29 while in action against Atalanta and could only last 30 minutes, was a 69th minute substitute for Danielle Baselli on his return.

Obi's career has suffered several setbacks due to series of injuries.

Despite the heavy loss and the Foxes now among the relegation candidates, the supporters took solace in the fact that their Nigerian midfielder produced a lively showing against the likes of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Mkhitaryan.

After four games in the English top-flight, Ndidi has made 162 passes, has 2 shots on target, accumulated 240 touches and made one block.

His defensive abilities have been more impressive, having made 8 interceptions, 13 tackles and 18 clearances, which is the third most by a Nigerian player in the EPL and he has played fewer games.

IHEANACHO IS BETTER THAN G.JESUS.

The long-term future of Africas Most Promising Talent, Kelechi Iheanacho, at Manchester City remains covered in mist.

For the third straight game, the Nigeria international failed to make Citys  matchday squad for a competitive fixture on Wednesday, fueling speculation he is now third choice striker at the club following the arrival of Brazil wonderkid Gabriel Jesus in the winter transfer market.

The proprietor of Taye Academy, Kennedy Ezenwere, who tutored Iheanacho before his move to the Etihad Stadium has a word of advice for his former pupil, and thinks the Super Eagle is better than Jesus.

“Kelechi is not playing because it depends on the tactics of Guardiola, he has to train harder, put in more effort and he will get back his spo

“It’s not because Kelechi is my boy, he is better than Gabriel Jesus. I will advice him to remain at Manchester City.

Iheanacho, 20, is contracted to Man City until June 2021, having signed a contract extension in August 2016.

ADVOCAAT REINSTATES EMENIKE

Head coach of Fenerbahce Dick Advocaat has given Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike a second chance at the club, few weeks after openly declaring that the striker is free to leave.
Lot of teams tried to snap up the forward but his wages and Fenerbahce demands in terms of loan fee and future permanent transfer fee scuttled the move.
Following the closure of the January transfer window, the Dutch coach according to several media sources in Turkey held a close door meeting with Emenike and Gregory Van di Wiel. The Two players he asked the club to do away with few weeks ago.
The duo will now resume training with the first team starting from today ahead of their weekend game in the league, although there are also reports that they might not make the matchday squad.

EGYPT PIPS BURKINA FASO TO FINAL

Penalties were needed to determine the first participant in the Africa Cup of Nations final with Egypt triumphing 4-3 over Burkina Faso in the shootout in Libreville to book a spot in the continental showpiece.
The game had ended 1-1 after extra-time with Egypt opening the scoring in the second period with a Mohamed Salah stunner but Burkina Faso wasted no time getting back on terms as Aristide Bance became the first player to breach the Egyptian defence in the tournament.
Burkina Faso had the better of the first-half but Egypt looked threatening whenever they did get an opportunity and Trezeguet went close with a curling effort that went just wide.
At the other end Bance took a touch on his chest and then his head before executing an overhead kick that flew over the crossbar.
With the half winding down Kahraba's effort from distance bounced akwardly and almost caught out Koffi but he saved well before Razack worked good space on the edge of the area but fired it straight at El-Hadary.
In the second period Bertrand Traore blasted goalwards from a free-kick but El-Hadary got hands behind it as Burkina Faso began displaying plenty of attacking intent.
When was eventually broken it was very much against the run of play although the quality of the build up from the Egyptians was well worth a goal.
Kahraba cushioned the ball brilliantly into the path of Salah who curled a magnificent first-time effort past a despairing Koffi to give his side the lead.
It was a lead that did not last all that long as the Burkinabe struck back with a goal that was as equally well constructed as their opposition and resulted in Bance taking the ball neatly on his chest before firing home on the half-volley.
Burkina Faso continued their dominance after restoring parity and the very dangerous Nakoulma tried to catch out the Pharaohs stopper with a shot from a tight angle that needed to be tipped around the post.
The veteran stopper was called into action once again in the dying seconds of regulation time as Diawara stuck out a foot to try and control a pass from deep and it looped up and was heading goalwards before El-Hadary tipper over.
During extra-time Burkina Faso continued to dominate and Nakoulma wasted a glorious chance as he blasted over from close range.
Alain Traore had a chance to be the hero when his side were awarded a free-kick with only minutes remaining but he crashed his effort into the wall and the game went to penalties.
Egypt emerged 4-3 winners in the shootout as El-Hadary saved Burkina Faso's final two penalties to deny a team that were far more deserving of a spot in the final on the balance of play.
