Rohr recalls five Eagles.
Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr according to very
reliable source has included five players that missed the battle of Ndola for
various reasons.
Top in the list is Chelsea’s mercurial wing back who
missed the match against Zambia to Injury. Victor Mosses has been penciled down
for the battle of Desert Foxes. Super Eagles boss only recently visited the inform
winger to intimate him on the importance of staying fit for the all-important
cracker.
Rohr also stopped over in Watford FC to see the duo
of Odion Ighalo and Isaac Success who coincidentally missed the match against Zambia
for Family issues and injury respectively. Though Isaac Success posted a man of
the match performance just a week after missing Nigeria’s match to injury, he
has since been sidelined again by the niggling injury.
Among those who we reliably gathered would resurface
in the list are Leon Balogun of FC Mainz in Germany and Oghenekaro Etebo of FC
Fareinse of Portugal who will be making his first appearance under the new
super Eagles Manager.
It would however not be a thing of surprise if
Daniel Akpeyi who the goalkeeping coach has been keenly monitoring resurfaces
in the Eagles list. Daniel Akpeyi has been in fine form in his PSL showings
with Chippa United. The Eagles boss has reiterated the importance of fielding
only players who are having playing time in their clubs. This stance would make
it difficult for the duo of Ikechukwu Ezenwa of Ifeanyi Ubah FC and Emmanuel
Daniels of Rangers FC to retain their position in the team.
Exception in the league of non-playing players that
will be donning the green white green against the desert Foxes is super Eagles
captain who leadership skills has been commended by Football loving Nigerians
lately.
Barring any change in plans, Rohr is expected to
maintain his formation of 4-3-3 at home against Algeria in Uyo.
While Carl Ikeme is sure to keep his place in post,
same cannot be said of Ndidi Wilfred who operated from unfamiliar right back
position. Ndidi struggled to replicate his club form from the right back
position as he was made to commit various blunders that could have resulted to
goals by Zambia wingers. Musa Mohammed who posted a convincing performance
against Tanzania has not been able to taste a minute of action with his modest
Turkish side Istanbul Baseksehir. Another player who though plays from the
right back position but was not considered in the match against Zambia is Shehu
Abdullahi of less fancied Anorthosis Famagusta of Cyprus.
Elderson Echegile was clearly not among Eagles best
performers against Zambia. Though, he is expected to keep his place ahead of
Kingsley Madu, he will need to work extra hard to keep the mercurial Riyadh
Mahrez in check especially as Rohr has made it clear that he won’t be paying
special attention to the winger cum playmaker.
William Troost Ekong whose place has been cemented
in the back of Eagles defense will wait for Rohr to decide between embattled
Kenneth Omeruo and recently recovered Leon Balogun to know who he will be
paired with in the Eagles Central defense.
Midfield Maestro, John Mikel Obi is expected to marshal
the midfield with Ogenyi Onazi with the assistance of Anderson Esiti and Nosa
Igiebor who will most likely start from the Eagles bench.
The wonderful three of Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi
and Victor Moses will most likely start in front of the defensive and central
midfield duo of Mikel and Onazi. It remains to be seen if the inform Super
Eagles assistant captain, Ahmed Musa will start from the bench with the likes
of Moses simon and Oghenekaro Etebo.
Bereaved Odion Ighalo who was misseing in the Ndola
cracker is expected to dislodge Brown Ideye for the number nine shirt in Uyo.
Isaac success that may be appearing with the senior national team for the first
time is expected to start from the Eagles bench.
