Brazilian plane carrying players crashes in Colombia

Chapecoense Football365
A plane carrying Brazilian football team Chapecoense has crashed in Colombia, officials from the Jose Maria Cordova International Airport in Medellin have announced.
There were 72 passengers and nine crew on board the charter plane, which was carrying the team to Medellin for their match against Atletico Nacional in the finals of the Copa Sudamericana, due to be played on Wednesday evening.
Officials from the airport reported only six survivors in a statement.
The plane had declared an emergency due to power failure before losing contact with the control tower.
Colombia has been hit by heavy storms which are hampering rescue efforts.
“The site of the accident is only accessible by land due to climatic conditions and low visibility,” a statement from the airport said. “The Colombian Air Force deployed a search and rescue helicopter which had to cancel the mission due to the adverse conditions.
“According to the authorities the police are mobilising all possible help since they are reporting six survivors.”
Officials said the plane was carrying 72 passengers and nine crew members.
Chapecoense had reached the finals of the Copa Sudamericana by beating Argentina’s San Lorenzo over two legs in the semi-finals, which concluded last week.
Before the airport’s statement, Atletico Nacional had said on Twitter: “National deeply regret and sympathise with @ChapecoenseReal for the accident which has happened and await information from authorities.”
The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) expressed its alarm as details of the crash emerged.
It said in a statement: “The South American Football Confederation confirms it has been notified by Colombian authorities that the plane in which the Chapecoense delegation was travelling had an accident on its arrival in Colombia.
“We are in contact with the authorities and awaiting official news.
“The CONMEBOL family greatly regrets what happened. All activities of the confederation are suspended until further notice. President Alejandro Dominguez is on his way to Medellin.”

A statement from Chapecoense said the club were waiting for full details of the accident.
The statement noted that different information was emerging through various sources, and said: “Chapecoense Football Club, through its vice-president Ivan Tozzo, reserves the right to wait for the official announcement from the Colombian air authority, in order to issue any official note about the accident.
“God be with our athletes, management, journalists and other guests who are with the delegation.”
Newspaper El Colombiano reported the plane went missing at around 10pm local time on Monday (3am GMT Tuesday).
The same newspaper said one footballer was among the survivors and had been taken to hospital.
NFF,Commiserate With Brazilians, Chapecoense Over Plane Crash

Nigeria Football Federation have commiserated with the Brazilian football club, Chapecoense over the plane crash that claimed lives of 76 people.

The Chapecoense delegation were on their way to Colombia for the final of the Copa Sudamerica against Atletico Nacional on Wednesday, but the plane crashed at the Cerro El Gordo sector of the municipality of La Union, in the East of the department of Antioquia, whose capital is Medellín.

The Nigeria Football Federation commented on social media :
Our thoughts are with @CBF_Futebol and Mgt. of Brazilian club @ChapecoenseReal following their loss in a plane crash #ForcaChape.
Chapecoense earlier made arrangements to travel to Medellin on Monday in a chartered flight, which was not authorized by the Civil Aviation Agency of that country, so the team had to board a commercial plane that crashed last night shortly before they got to Medellin.

The nine crew members and seventy two passengers were expected to arrive the José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro at 0500 hours GMT on Tuesday.

Iwobi : Jay-Jay Okocha Convinced Me To Choose Nigeria Ahead Of England

Published: November 27, 2016 Arsenal attacking midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed that his uncle, Austin Okocha, and family played a big role to convince him to play for Nigeria rather than England.

Alex’s dad, former Vasco da Gama of Enugu defender Chuka Iwobi, personally brought him to Abuja to train with the Nigeria U23 national team early last year as he was double-minded regarding whether or not to commit his international future to the Super Eagles.
“It was my decision, but Jay-Jay and my family did have a big influence on me,” Iwobi told Sky Sports.
In my head it felt like the right decision to play for Nigeria - and I felt very at home when I went to play for them.

Iwobi was born in Nigeria but moved to the United Kingdom with his family at the age of two.

The 20-year-old accumulated 11 caps for England youth teams before making his competitive debut for Nigeria.

Chisom Egbuchulam To Decide On Future In December Amid Interest From Belgium, Portugal & France

image
One of the top scorers in the recently concluded Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Chisom Egbuchulam says he will decide on his future with Nigeria League Champions Enugu Rangers In December.
Last season Chisom scored 14 goals in the league for Rangers, four goals behind top scorer Godwin Obaje of Wikki Tourist. The duo were rewarded for their performances with a call up to the Nigeria senior national team by coach Gernot Rohr.
However the duo didn’t get to play in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers in Zambia, which the Super Eagles won 2-1, and while Joshua Obaje is away on trial in Europe, Egbuchulam said he has offers to consider in December.
” For now, I won’t deny I have offers and contacts from teams in Sweden, Portugal, France, Sweden and Denmark. But I am yet to decide on any of the offers on my table”
” I will decide on my next destination in December ahead of a transfer in January. Hopefully I will land a team in Europe”.

Awaziem Praises Leadership Qualities Of Chelsea Mikel –  Likens him to Casillas

image
FC Porto teen sensation Chidozie Awaziem says captain of the Nigeria senior national team John Mikel Obi is similar to his FC Porto teammate, the legendary Iker Casillas when it comes to motivating young players.
Highly tipped to be handed his debut by new Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, the FC Porto defender who was in the Nigerian team for the AFCON 2017 tie against Tanzania, ironically grew up in same state in Nigeria with the Chelsea star.
Awaziem was a 9 year old teen in Jos, same area as Mikel when the Chelsea man moved to Stamford Bridge in 2005, and the 19 year old says he still can’t believe he is a teammate to Mikel in the national team.
” I’m based in Jos, same place as senior man (Mikel) , have heard a lot of good things about him, but there is more to him than just been good, he is every young player’s delight”
” I found it hard to approach him, when he first came to camp, but Mikel is the type who will approach you, if you don’t and always willing to find out if all is well, he reminds me of Casillas, the way he is treating me is no different.
” Mikel and Casillas are natural leaders, their aura inspires you, even before they say a word, their presence alone is enough motivation”.

Rohr Could Line Up Back Four Made Of Players With Dual Nationality Including

image
As the Super Eagles of Nigeria rebuilding process continues under manager Gernot Rohr, there are indications that if all goes according to plan, the manager could line up a back four consisting of players with dual nationality for Nigeria.
Rohr has been busy convincing players with dual nationality to switch allegiance to Nigeria, particularly in the defence where they are few options for the coach.
So far the defence has two players with dual nationality in William Troost Ekong, who carries a dutch passport and Leon Balogun who was born in Germany as leaders, with goalkepper Carl Ikeme also carrying a British passport in addition to his green passport.
Nigeria failed with an effort to convince Tyrone Ebuehi to switch nationality, as the Dutch born defender who plays for ADO Den Haag asked for more time particulary to focus on his club career.
It is believed that he will still play for Nigeria, and Chelsea rising teen Ola Aina is also well within the sight of Nigeria, with captain John Obi Mikel sounding him out about a potential switch of allegiance from England to Nigeria.
Russian born Nigerian defender Brian Idowu was a late omission from the squad for the last World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria, no thanks to issues bothering on securing a Nigerian passport.
Hungarian Nigerian Kenneth Otigba is also set to be given the chance he has been craving for a very long time by Rohr, who will visit Turkey and run the rule on the 24 year old, who plays for Kasimpasa.
All of the above mentioned players are for now, the options coach Rohr is looking at and if he succeeds, it is very possible for Nigeria to line up a back four of players with dual nationality including goalkepper.

Rohr Leaves Door Open For QPR Nedum Onouha, Could Meet Him In England

image
Franco German coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr could consider QPR Nedum Onouha, who once snubbed Nigeria for England.
Onouha has indicated his interest to re- launch his international career with Nigeria after failing to make the step up from the English youth teams to the senior national team.
His decision has divided opinions among Nigerians but head coach Gernot believes, if the 30 year old has what it takes to improve the team then he would be handed a call up to the senior national team.
” He can play at right back and also as a central defender. That makes him an option we can’t discard easily but he has to earn his spot in the team. We will keep a close watch on him”,
” Regardless of what has happened in the past, if he will improve the quality and strength in our team. We will give him a chance. Let say we could possibly meet in London”.

German Defender Akpoguma: I Am Interested In Playing For Nigeria

2016 FLASHBACK: Hoffenheim Defender Akpoguma: I Am Interested In Playing For Nigeria BUT...... Hoffenheim center back Kevin Akpoguma  who captained the Germany side that dispatched in the last under 20 world cup tournament has a soft spot for Nigeria, and he will explore the possibility of representing the national team after the Fifa Under 20 World Cup.

In spite of that, the 19-year-old’s heart is with Germany’s youth team for now, and he has not ruled out playing for the senior squad should he put himself in the shop window during the tournament in New Zealand.

Bear it in mind that Germany has a population of approximately 80 million people, and the outstanding youngsters are normally invited to the senior squad  when they turn 20 or 21, an immense honour to the selected players.

I am very interested in playing for Nigeria. For the moment, that’s one of my biggest dreams, Kevin Akpoguma said.
But I now play for Germany’s Under 20 team, I am a member of the team and a regular player.

My chances are open. If I do well at the Under 20 World Cup, it’s possible I will be invited to their main team.

Kevin Akpoguma has failed to break into the first team of Hoffenheim, fueling speculation that he is set to depart the Rhein-Neckar Arena, with the likes of Hamburg and Werder Bremen reportedly set to pounce for him.

But the Karlsruher SC product has watered down talk of an imminent departure from Hoffenheim in January.

I am staying at Hoffenheim. They see potential in me, and I will be traveling with the team to South Africa for a training camp next month, Kevin Akpoguma said.

The defender has clocked up 17 appearances for Hoffenheim II in the Regionalliga so far this season, picking up only one booking in those matches.

Pinnick: I Will Get Chelsea’s Abraham, Liverpool’s Ejaria To Play For Nigeria

President of Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has expressed firm optimism that some young players playing for English youth sides will soon don Nigerian jersey.
Pinnick told the media in Abuja that it had always been the dream of the present NFF board to build a young Super Eagles team that will go on to conquer the world by 2022, adding that they are monitoring several Nigerian players making waves in the various leagues of Europe
"The initial plan was to take our players in the various clubs but now what are trying to do is what we call VIP scouting – talking to these young players that are playing abroad to play for their father land. Tyrone Ebuehi did not say he won't play for Nigeria, but his agent want him to settle down in his new club first,"
"If you talk about Tammy Abraham, he is like my son, his father and I grew up in the same neighborhood. so when they talk about him, I just laugh because I know what to do. As for Ovie Ejaria, I talk with the father often, he just called me recently. These are people we have met and they are all excited about Nigeria," Pinnick quipped.
He continued: " I am yet to see a Nigerian that is regretting being a Nigerian. No Nigerian, even if they have four or five passports, they are always excited being Nigerians. I can assure you that we shall get them to play for us at appropriate time."
Tammy Abraham, full name Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo Abraham is a Chelsea FC player on loan to Bristol and has been capped by England at Under-18 level. He is referred to as an English born. Ovie Ejaria was recently capped by England Under-20 team after playing at the Unde-18 for them. He had also broken into Liverpool's senior team and made his league debut in the 6-1 drubbing of Ighalo's Watford.

I play for Pogba.

Ander Herrera Paul Pogba Manchester United
Ander Herrera says that Jose Mourinho has given him a “new role” at Manchester United in order to help Paul Pogba.
Herrera has emerged as one of the key players of Mourinho’s early regime at Old Trafford, having featured in eight of United’s 11 Premier League games so far.
United have lost just once when the Spaniard has started in the league, and his impressive performances at club level have earned him an international call-up.
He is expected to make his debut for Spain in a friendly against England on Tuesday, and he credits his new playing role for his upturn in fortunes.
“I’m here because Mourinho’s given me the chance to take a new role,” he told The Guardian. “It’s more defensive: hold my position, don’t lose the ball, win it, bring it out fluidly, that ‘rest defence’. I’m enjoying it. I’m there for others.”
The 27-year-old added that his more reserved position is designed to allow Paul Pogba more freedom in midfield.
The pair have started five matches together in the Premier League, recording one win, three draws and a defeat, while scoring five goals and conceding six.
However, performances such as those in the 4-1 victory over Leicester have given hope that Herrera is the perfect foil for the world’s most expensive player.
“Paul’s an offensive player; he needs freedom and the team needs him to have that,” Herrera said. “He can score ten a season. With his strength, the way he hits the ball with both feet, his ability in the air, you have to make the most of that.”

No regrets going to Olympic despite Conte snub

John Obi Mikel
John Obi Mikel insists he does not regret opting to represent Nigeria at the Olympic Games in the summer.
Mikel has not featured for Chelsea under new manager Antonio Conte, with the midfielder having not enjoyed a pre-season at Stamford Bridge.
The midfielder featured for his country at the Olympic Games as Nigeria secured a bronze medal, but Mikel has found himself out of favour upon his return to club football.
He insists he does not regret choosing his country first this summer however.
“I have never been a guy who makes excuses in life and never shy away from responsibilities,” he told The Sun.
“Yes, maybe people will say the new manager was upset I left and went to the Olympics, that I didn’t have a pre-season with the team.
“He probably thinks I don’t care about the team, things like that.
But I don’t want to use those excuses. I have to keep training hard and make sure I change the manager’s mind. If not, then we’ll see what happens in January.
“But, no, I would never swap my Olympic medal for a place back in the Chelsea team.
“One thing you have to do in life as a man is that when you make a decision, or a sacrifice, you have to deal with it. You have to stand by your decision. You have to live with it.
“I have not one single regret in going to the Olympics. And I will not trade my medal for anything.
“It’s what I deserve. I worked hard for it, so why would I trade it for something else — a place in the Chelsea squad?”

OKOCHA GATECRASHES TO A WARM WELCOME.

image
The Super Eagles of Nigeria close door training session at the Nest of Champions stadium in Uyo ahead of their clash against Algeria, had in attendance former captain of the Super Eagles Austin Okocha.
Dressed in a black top and brown coloured pants, the former Bolton Wanderers captain was the only unofficial member of the team granted access to the training by the security operatives at the stadium.
Okocha who is the uncle of Arsenal 20 year old forward Alex Iwobi arrived at the pitch shortly before the start of training, and was given a rousing reception by coach of the team Gernot Rohr.
Rohr addressed the players on how Okocha helped boost the image of Nigerian players in Europe, which according to him has impacted in the career of most of the players in his team and Nigeria at large.
“He did so much for the reputation of Nigerian football players and some of you are profiting from that. And we must thank him for bringing us to here.” He told the players before the start of training.image

Pep urge City to learn how to attack ten men

Pep Guardiola Manchester City
Pep Guardiola admits Manchester City will need to sharpen up when facing opponents intent on defending.
Guardiola’s City were held for a third successive home Premier League game as Middlesbrough claimed a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
City dominated the contest as promoted Boro, perhaps fearing an onslaught, defended deeply.
The hosts enjoyed 71 per cent of possession and had 25 shots but could only breach the visitors’ rearguard once through Sergio Aguero in the 43rd minute.
Much to manager Guardiola’s frustration, Boro’s obduracy was eventually rewarded in stoppage time as Marten de Roon headed a last-gasp equaliser.
The result cost City top spot in the table and left Guardiola with work to do to improve his side’s strike rate.
Guardiola said: “We took the ball, attacking 10 guys there. We controlled it, we didn’t concede counter-attacks, but in 90 minutes there will be some moments when the opponents arrive and take a chance.
“What happens here in the Premier League is that when they arrive they punish you. That’s why we have to try (to score) when we arrive there, like (with) the chances we had in the first half.
“When 10 players don’t want to play and 10 players are there (defending) it is always difficult, but we created enough chances to score a goal.”
Guardiola is confident his approach to the game is the right way to combat such tactics. The key to success is in the execution.
He said: “In 90 minutes always you miss something and make a small mistake, and they are clinical there.
“I remember the first game against Sunderland. Sunderland didn’t arrive before the goal from Defoe. That is a talent.
“I’m not saying it isn’t a good thing, because it is, but I think if you have more chances and concede few then you have more opportunities to win the game. That’s my point of view.
“People say, ‘Use the counter attack’ but how are we supposed to use the counter-attack when the opponents don’t attack? You have to attack 10 players. It is not easy but you have to keep going in that way.
“My feeling is that we are playing better when 10 players are there (than in previous games) but we have to improve.”
Guardiola insists he was well aware of how tough the Premier League would be when he arrived.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, the former Barcelona boss said: “I know you want me to say the Premier League is the hardest league in the world! Every time you are waiting on that.
“I tell you, you have to be so proud, the Premier League is the most difficult! Of course it is difficult but I expected it like this. I am so happy to be here to handle those situations.”
Such was the frustration for City after conceding so late on, defender Pablo Zabaleta spoke of the result as if it was a defeat.
The right-back said: “If you look at the whole game, we did everything to win it. We had our chances, we missed them and then we conceded that goal at the end.
“When you lose a game in that way, obviously it’s very hard to take.”
City captain Vincent Kompany was again on the bench as he is eased back into action after a groin injury but his recent troubles have not prevented him being called up for international duty by Belgium.
Guardiola said: “He is available to play. It will be good for him to get minutes and hopefully he will come back fit.”

 ‘blindness’ fears over RvP

Robin van Persie: Scored from the bench
Fenerbahce have played down fears over an eye injury suffered by former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie on Sunday.
The 33-year-old Dutchman scored the opening goal in Fener’s 3-1 Super Lig win over Akhisar but was carried off on a stretcher after 37 minutes, having taken a blow to the eye in a seemingly innocuous collision with an opponent.
Television pictures appeared to show blood coming from Van Persie’s heavily bandaged left eye, but a club statement said the situation was much less serious than feared.
“He received a blow to the eye and suffered a torn eyelid and bleeding,” club doctor Burak Kunduraciogl said. “After the first intervention, we sent an ophthalmologist to the hospital to assess him.
“After the investigations we learned that nothing important happened. His condition is good.”
It must come as a relief to the striker after The Sun claimed he ‘might never see again’.

"They showed us high quality and totally deserved the win''.

Ronald Koeman says Everton were taught a lesson by Chelsea in their 5-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Two goals from Eden Hazard and one apiece from Marcos Alonso, Diego Costa and Pedro saw the Toffees humbled after what has been their best ever start to a Premier League campaign.
Koeman started with a 5-3-2 formation, which he altered after the first two goals were conceded, but it failed to stem the tide as Chelsea dominated throughout.
After the match, Koeman told the club's official website: "They showed us a big lesson in every aspect of football.
"They showed us high quality and totally deserved [the win]."
While the former Southampton and Feyenoord manager admitted his side were second best, he was not prepared for such a heavy loss.
"We need to accept it, it’s difficult and we are disappointed. I did not expect the difference we saw on the pitch."
Koeman conceded it was difficult to play against the Blues' 3-4-3 formation, which allows the front three players of Hazard, Costa and Pedro to interchange at will.
He added: "It’s a difficult system to play against. That made the movements of Hazard create a lot of problems in our defending. The way how they press and how they play aggressively was much better than what we showed."
Up next for Everton is a clash with Swansea on November 19 after the international break. Koeman would rather not have the delay.
"[The break] is a bad thing," he said. "The best thing would be to play tomorrow and to show a difference. We need to show a reaction in two weeks."

Guardiola Forgives Yaya Toure After Apology

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has welcome Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure back to the squad after the player apologised to the club on Friday.
Toure is yet to feature for the Citizens in the league this season following some indecent statements made by his agent Dmitri Seluk which prompted the Spaniard to demand  for an apology.
In a statement on Friday morning, he apologised on behalf of himself and those who represent him.
And Guardiola stated that he had a private conversation with the former African footballer of the Year winner after his action and described it as  a good development for the club.
"I spoke with Yaya today (Friday), of course it' s  a private conversation. It was good for Manchester City," the former Bayern Munich coach told reporters ahead of Saturday's home clash against Middlesbrough.
"Yaya is in all our meetings and all our training sessions. I spoke with him and it's good, that's all. Now we are on the game against Middlesbrough.
"I answered about Yaya. I don't want to answer any more. You know the situation."
Yaya's last outing for City came  during the second leg of Champions League qualifier against Steau Bucharest on August 24.

Toure issues official apology to Pep and Man City

Yaya Toure
Yaya Toure has issued an official apology to Manchester City on behalf of himself and agent Dimitri Seluk.
Toure has featured just once for City since the appointment of Pep Guardiola as manager in the summer, with the Ivorian playing the full 90 minutes of a Champions League qualifier against Steaua Bucharest in August.
Guardiola omitted Toure from the club’s subsequent 25-man Champions League squad, attracting the ire of the midfielder’s agent, Seluk.
The manager then made it clear that Toure would not be considered for selection until Seluk apologised for his public criticisms.
On Friday morning Seluk revealed that Toure had demanded he apologise to Guardiola, and now the player himself has spoken.
“I wish to apologise – on behalf of myself and those who represent me – to the management team and all those working at the club for the misunderstandings from the past,” read the statement.
“Those statements do not represent my views on the club or the people who work there. I have nothing but respect for Manchester City and only wish the best for the football club.
“I am immensely proud to have played a part in the club’s history and want to help City succeed further. I live to play football and entertain the fans.
“On that note, I would like to thank all of the fans for their messages through this difficult period. This means a great deal to me and my family.”

Mata, Herrera returns in Lapotegui's latest squad

Juan Mata Spain
Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has been recalled to an injury-hit Spain squad for the upcoming matches against Macedonia and England.
Mata is among several returning players in Julen Lopetegui’s 25-man group, with Aritz Aduriz – fresh from his five-goal Europa League haul for Athletic Bilbao on Thursday night – Cesar Azpilicueta, Sergio Asenjo and Marc Bartra also back in the fold.
Uncapped Sevilla defender Sergio Escudero has earned his first call up.
They will help cover the loss of several national team linchpins to injury, with Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba and Javi Martinez all missing.
Spain take on Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier in Granada on November 12 before then facing England in a friendly three days later at Wembley.
The other Premier League-based players included are Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal, Chelsea striker Diego Costa, Manchester City duo David Silva and Nolito and Manchester United pair David de Gea and Ander Herrera.
Midfielder Herrera, who has impressed for United this season, could be in line for a Spain debut, having earned his first call-up for the recent matches against Italy and Albania, but without featuring in either game.
There is still no place for Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, though, or record-breaking keeper Iker Casillas and Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran.
Coach Lopetegui told a press conference: “The 25-man list is to cover all possible absentees that we could have.
“We’ve total confidence in the players we’ve chosen. Aduriz achieved something difficult yesterday, but we already had him in our minds before that game.
“He’s doing very well, has had good games, and he gives us alternatives. Every player up front is different, but they can all fit in with the way we have of attacking.”
With 35-year-old Aduriz winning a place back in the squad, Lopetegui was asked if David Villa, 34, might also be an option.
Villa, Spain’s all-time record goalscorer, has not played for his country since the 2014 World Cup, but the former Barcelona and Valencia hitman has been a prolific scorer for Major League Soccer side New York City FC.
Lopetegui said: “We have no problem bringing in older players. In the case of David Villa, he is playing in another league and is at a good level. He is being competitive and scoring, but we’ve understood that the strikers we had to bring in were those that we have.
“We are happy with the squad that we have, and it’s been chosen to help us try and claim victory in both games.”
Spain squad to play Macedonia and England: Reina (Napoli), De Gea (Manchester United), Asenjo ( Villarreal); Nacho (Real Madrid), Bartra (Borussia Dortmund), Martinez (Real Sociedad), Azpilicueta (Chelsea), Monreal (Arsenal), Carvajal (Real Madrid), Escudero (Sevilla); Roberto (Barcelona), Herrera (Manchester United), Busquets (Barcelona), Koke (Atletico Madrid), Isco (Real Madrid), Thiago (Bayern Munich), Silva (Manchester City), Mata (Manchester United), Vazquez (Real Madrid), Callejon (Napoli), Vitolo (Sevilla); Morata (Real Madrid), Costa (Chelsea), Nolito (Manchester City), Aduriz (Athletic Bilbao).

Pochettino confirms Kane will return against Arsenal

Harry Kane Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Tottenham striker Harry Kane will be in the squad to face Arsenal in the north London derby on Sunday.
Pochettino said Kane would at least be named on the bench at the Emirates Stadium and added it would “not be a risk” to play the 23-year-old.
Kane has been out for almost seven weeks with an ankle ligament injury but resumed training with the first-team squad on Monday.
“He will be in the squad,” Pochettino said.
“He will be available for Sunday and then I need to decide (whether he should be in the) starting XI or (on the) bench.
“I am happy after yesterday, (it was a) very good training session, he is fit.”
Pochettino added: “It would not be a risk to play him. We try to avoid risk. If he is on the pitch or the bench it’s because we’re sure it’s not a risk for him to play.
“In football you can’t avoid all risk because it’s a contact sport (but if) the doctor said he is available to be selected it’s because there is no risk of injury.”
Kane’s return would come as a huge boost to Tottenham, who have struggled for both form and fluency without their first-choice striker.
Spurs have not found the net from open play in their last five matches and they are winless in their last six in all competitions.
Kane also has an impressive record against Arsenal, notching four goals in three league games against the Gunners and scoring in both league fixtures last season.
“Always it is important to have Harry Kane,” Pochettino said.
“In the last few seasons he has been very important for us. He was top scorer in the Premier League (last season) and always the player who is top scorer in the Premier League is important for any club.
“It is true he has a good record against Arsenal. It is important he is back and can help the team get a good result.”
Jose to axe eight – job ‘bigger than he thought’
Jose Mourinho Football365 Jose Mourinho wants to sell at least eight players over the next two transfer windows as he embarks on a Manchester United squad revamp.
Mourinho was appointed successor to Louis van Gaal in the summer, and took to life at Old Trafford well initially, winning the Community Shield and his first three games in the Premier League.
However, United now sit eighth in the Premier League, and are struggling for form.
A 2-1 Europa League defeat to Fenerbahce on Thursday means the club have now won just two of their last seven games, and have already lost five.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the Portuguese now feels he underestimated the size of the task that faces him, and he is keen to offload eight players over the next year.
Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian, Phil Jones, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Michael Carrick, Memphis Depay and Ashley Young are all reported to be surplus to requirements by James Ducker, who writes:
Mourinho believes he has taken on a bigger job at Old Trafford than he originally thought and is ready to make extensive changes to the squad next year. If there is a possibility of doing business in the January transfer window, both in terms of incomings and outgoings, the Portuguese will do so, although the bulk of United’s activity will take place next summer.
‘Mourinho has concerns over other members of his squad, too, but accepts there will be a limit to the number of players he can move on and sign in any one transfer window. Marouane Fellaini will enter the final 12 months of his contract next summer, as will captain Wayne Rooney, whom Mourinho has insisted remains part of his plans. There is an option on Rooney’s contract that would enable either the player or United to extend the deal until June 2019 but that seems unlikely to happen.’
Bentaleb Suffers Injury Ahead Of Algeria Trip To Nigeria.

Tottenham Hotspur Loanee Bentaleb Suffers Injury Ahead Of Algeria Trip To NigeriaTottenham Hotspur loanee Nabil Bentaleb is racing against the clock to be fit for Algeria’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria next week.

The former France U19 international doubled Schalke’s advantage in their 2-0 win over FC Krasnodar in Group I of the Europa League on Thursday night, but subbed out in the 58th minute after getting a blow on the knee.

In the coming hours, Bentaleb will undergo medical examinations to determine the severity of the injury he picked up.

It would be a big blow to the Desert Foxes manager Georges Leekens if the central midfielder is ruled out of the trip to Nigeria, with Bordeaux midfielder Ounas out of contention and Leicester City star Slimani battling to be fit.

Nigeria had only one injury worry before their biggest game since facing France in the second round of the 2014 World Cup and have called up a replacement for Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

The controversy surrounding Tyronne Ebuehi’s withdrawal from the Nigeria squad for the World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria has taken a different twist.
20 year old Ebuehi, who is also eligible to play for the Netherlands was called up for the first time by Nigeria, but in a rather bizarre twist, the ADO Den Haag full back rejected the call in an interview on the website of his club.
“I see it as a great honor that I am noted in my homeland,” says Ebuehi.
“But at this moment ADO Den Haag requires my full attention. Especially now that I am settled in the team. Therefore, it doesn’t seems to me like the right time to travel to Nigeria for the match. I want to focus completely on the club . but I certainly do not rule out playing for Nigeria in the future, if the next time am called up ” He told the club official website.
The president of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick, who revealed he has spoken with the father over his son’s withdrawal.
” It’s not true. His agent (Wessel Weezenberg) is behind that statement, it was done without the consent of the player. As a matter of fact his father confidently told me that he will play for Nigeria” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” For now, we don’t know why the agent is trying to block him from Nigeria. He earlier denied contact with Nigeria over his services. But we are speaking with his family. We have their word. He will play for Nigeria”.

Mikel brings a lot to the team, he will play.

Head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says captain of the Nigeria senior national team John Mikel Obi will keep on playing for Nigeria, despite his limited playing time for Chelsea.
Mikel is yet to play a competitive game for Chelsea under new manager Antonio Conte, but in that same period of time. The 29 year old has played twice for Nigeria.
He even refuted Conte’s claims that injury is why he isn’t playing for Chelsea, and went a step further by starring for Nigeria in their 2-1 win over Zambia in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers game.
However Rohr who warned players of the team to sort out their club forms or forget playing for Nigeria, backtracked on his captain insisting he is an exception to his rule on club form.
” Mikel brings a lot of to the team. We have a very young team. He motivates them on the pitch, his work ethics is an inspiration to the young players in the team. Such players can’t be left out of a national team”
” As long he isn’t injured and trains regularly, am okay. For now he is one of the most important player in our team”.
